Nicaragua Dental Mission, 2019

Our team of ten eager volunteers was so excited to return to serve our friends in Nicaragua!

Working on only a few hours of sleep, we jumped right in to setting up and treating patients at Club Esperanza.  In the midst of great poverty, Club Esperanza (“Club Hope”) offers hope to the families living near the dump in Managua.  We were so thankful to have had the opportunity to treat both children and adults here for two days.

Muddy roads didn’t keep us from treating three more days in Villa el Carmen.  We hopped on the bus each day, sometimes gathering our patents as we went, and arrived to crowds waiting for treatment.  Word is getting out that HH&S works hard to serve as many people as we can with high quality dental care.  On our second day in Villa el Carmen we were surprised to be interviewed and filmed by Nicaraguan television!

Our patient total was nearly 450 patients, over 1,200 procedures were performed, totaling over $160,000 worth of treatment. Many thanks to our amazing, hard-working team, Nicaraguan partners, and of course our donors who make it possible for us to bring smiles to so many!
Thoughts from a first-time team member:

“As a recent graduate, Nicaragua 2019 was an invaluable experience that has contributed to my development as a dental professional tremendously. Hearts Hands and Smiles not only leaves a positive mark within the beautiful communities treated, but on its’ volunteers as well.” – Annalee
